Scraping for Data at Betascape
Join me this weekend at Betascape! I’ll be in the Data Visualization lab all day on Sunday, helping out with any projects folks bring in. I’ll specifically be discussing “Scraping for Data” from 11:30a to 1p. You’ll learn how to easily grab information from websites, jpg photos, the Twitter API, and many other sources.
Most of my examples are written in Ruby, mostly because that’s my language of choice, but also because it’s pretty easy for a beginner to understand and the tools and libraries are robust and well-maintained.
See some examples in my Github project.
Bring your own rough data sources and I’ll help you clean them up and get the data ready for presentation.
